AUDI E-TRON & PORSCHE TAYCAN FIRE RISK

April 2, 2024

Porsche and Audi have gifted 824 lucky consumers with either a Taycan or e-tron that may go up in flames if fully charged.

Around May 17, 2024, they plan to send letters to affected consumers to warn them not to charge their vehicles beyond 80% until their vehicles can be repaired. Surely nothing bad will happen between now and then?

Luckily the recall only affects up to 1,837 vehicles, but we’re confident you won’t feel lucky if it’s your vehicle that goes up in flames you were silly and charged to vehicle beyond 80%.

If you own a 2022 through 2024 Audi e-tron or 2020 through 2024 Taycan, the easiest way to tell if you’re a winner before May 17 is to punch the VIN on the driver’s door jamb sticker or the little plate below the corner of your windshield into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall page.

Under California law, consumers may be entitled to a refund, partial or complete, when a manufacturer violates any duty within the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. (Civil Code §1794.) Those duties include commencing repairs within a reasonable time, completing repairs within 30 days, providing sufficient replacement parts instructions to permit the repairs to be completed. If they’re not planning on telling consumers about the recall until mid-May, odds are that they willing or able to comply with California law.

If you purchased or leased one of these vehicles in California, you may be entitled to relief. Give us a call if you want to try to get your money back.

In the meantime, if you know more about the recall, you can also click on the links below, which are all publicly available documents posted by NHTSA.
